Does the FR965 Titanium ring scratch easily?

I’ve been considering upgrading for some time, and seem to hit my Garmin around on the lift doors, gym machine everything at times. It happens.

Will this one scratch easily? A bit concerned about it prior to purchasing and see a bunged up watch

  • Well, I cannot say if I'm as prone as you to hit my watch on things (I feel probably not), but I have no scratches or other marks on my 965's titanium bezel after 1.5 years.

However, you should be aware that 965's screen glass is raised just so slightly above the bezel, so it's also prone to receive a hit. I've used a TPU screen protector on my watch, and had to replace it once (the protector got a scratch from a branch while hiking in dense forest, the actual gorilla glass probably wouldn't have minded even without a protector).

There are also quite ok TPU case protectors for 965, which protect the body of the watch and have a raised edge for additional screen protection. I bought one for a couple of euros and typically put it on when I'm off to multi-day hikes. It's additional hassle, but works for occasional additional protection.

  • I've worn mine every day for about 8 months, and there are no scratches yet. That said, metal does scratch if you smash it against something hard enough.

  • Yeah that's the thing, you'll never know if the gorilla glass would have gotten scratched when the TPU one did...better be safe than sorry though especially if it doesn't "distract".

  • I haven’t got a scratch on my 965 and wear it over 1 and a half year. (Doing running, trailrunning, biking and hiking and some mountaineering )

But have to say, had a plastic forerunner 935 for over 6 years, and there was barely a scratch to see. It might be me being careful/lucky.

Do have to say, I’ve seen fenix watches looking terrible after a few months. Problem is, a scratch on that one removes the paint, so a scratch is a shiny line in the black paint. A scratch in a plastic case is a dark line in a dark case. Don’t know if a scratch in the titanium is more like a scratch on a metal fenix or a plastic forerunner.

  • Yeah the 935 was a tank ! I think a scrach on the Ti of the 965 would be like on a Fenix but since it's a lot thinner...and I guess you could always try to put some "black" with a pen. I did that on my Venu2 that I scratched and it worked surprisingly well.
Those that quickly look terrible are the clear Epix Ti bezels.
