Sensor records random values on certain surfaces

Hi,

I have identified an issue when I do not wear my watch: when laying on certain surfaces, the sensor does record random values.

This can happen if the watch is placed on a table with the sensor resting on one of the straps that is folded in at the back of the watch.

When I go to the Hearth Rate app and leave the watch in that position, it starts measuring an hearth rate, with a moving value.

Have you experienced the same behaviour? Would that impact some data (as the average hearth rate), or should that simply be ignored?

Many thanks

  • It's probably caused by the sensor being affected by small changes in lighting (which always happens if your country's electricity uses alternating current). Or surface vibrations caused by air conditioning or something else. Of course it doesn't matter when you wear the watch. And when you don't, you can keep the watch on its side (so that it sees so much light that it knows it's not being worn).

Mainly it just shows how small signals the watch has to be able to measure when it senses the small discolorations on your skin caused by heartbeats.

  • Yes, for a short while, but then it usually stops the LEDs
