Touch Screen doesn't work during recording the activity since 20.26

I'm a AMR Tennis Tracker dev and I noticed the issue in FR 965 (and I also received reports for FR 265): after starting the activity, the touchscreen apparently stops working.

From the code perspective, it looks like this:
1. After launching the app, and before it starts the activity, the code 

System.getDeviceSettings().isTouchScreen

returns true. Then I start recording activity, and after that, the same piece of code returns false. It seems that the touchscreen is disabled by system, after checking the user settings the touchscreen is enabled in general use, and during the activity. It looks like the firmware bug, touchscreen is enabled in watch settings and it is not a bug related to the app itself. What can I do to enable the touchscreen during the activity? It was reported by many FR965 users after the firmware update, they didn't change anything in the settings and, if asked, they said that they have the touchscreen option enabled. What else can I Check? / or how to fix this issue?


Before the firmware update everything worked fine, it also works fine on the other models (e.g epix 2, fenix 7,8, marq, vivoactive4 and 5...).

  • The behavior described by kefas-safek is the same I am facing on my FR965. Everything was working fine before the 20.26, the recent updates provided by Garmin didn't have changed anything. Today, I cannot use anymore several applications due to this bug such as Tennis Studio, AMR tennis tracker. I've opened an official ticket to Garmin several weeks ago but no feed back yet from the Garmin's technical team

    Anyway I think there was some change in the past half a year where users can set more things per activity (as opposed to system settings). Is it possible you can now enable/disable touch per activity?

  • We can enable/disabel the tactile per activity but only for Garmin application (the tennis one for example) but not for an external one such as AMR.In my case the tactile is enabled in all cases except during sleeping

  • Try to report it to Garmin support, 'cause they don't read this user forum. Good luck with the report, as when they hear 3rd party or CIQ they usually freeze and don't know what to do, so they start to tell you it's supposed to work like this, it's not a Garmin made app... Once I even found a Garmin made downloadable data field that reproduced the bug I reported and they told me it's not made by Garmin even though it had the Garmin logo as a developer...

    Maybe in parallel open a CIQ bug, as there at least the city team will understand the problem, though I don't know how much they communicate with other teams in-house
