Every time I've done a triathlon race I face several issues, at first I thought they were just bad luck but it seems to happen every single race and makes using the watch for pace management very frustrating, here's what I consistently see:
1) Open water swim - the GPS tends to be completely off so pace doesn't record correctly, also HR while swimming is not great
The real issues:
2) When going from the swim to bike generally my HR is off either too high or low - and will get back to where it should be if I power off and on the watch (I tried drying the sensors, moving the watch around, the only thing that works is powering it off and on).
3) When moving from the bike to the run the Power meter tends to be all over the place, sometimes the HR sensor is off also. It sometimes gets fixed by powering off and on but in my last race this fixed Power but not HR (HR got stuck in the 150 range, should have been in the 160-170). If I had to guess it seems the sensor is in some way compensating for something or not resetting to it's baseline after the activity change.
I've attached the images on how this looks like. Overall this only happens in multisport mode and I rarely have these issues when starting activities stand alone. Since this is the top of the range watch for multisport I would really expect the function to work as expected.
Note that these issues have several other consequences in the overall Garmin framework, for example having a heart rate above 190 for several minutes will drastically increase load for the activity, which will skew training load and recovery times, etc. In short every time the watch has this issue every other training feature gets significantly affected.
Happy to provide more info, appreciate the help!
Swim (looks like I only moved 5 m, this was a 750m swim):
Bike (HR starts very low):
Run (Power went crazy, compare the first part that's all spiky vs the smooth part after I powered off and on):
Run (HR went crazy above 190, and then tried powering off and on several times but never went above 150, you can see that I maintained an even pace, so it can't be that I'm either in the 190s and then after reset I'm in the 150s, at this pace I should be in the 160 to 170 range)
