Help: Heart Rate Monitor

Hello All!

I've had my Garmin Forerunner 965 for a number of months and love it.

I can see this question has been asked and answered in the past, but I'm not seeing recent concerns, so I'm throwing mine out there: is anyone else having trouble with your heart rate monitor dropping your heart rate fast and hard?

I've had it happen twice in the last couple of months and it scared the living daylights out of me. The first time I was doing pilates and suddenly my heart rate started dropping low and really fast. I freaked out and sat up. Thing is, there is no way my heart rate was that low! I could feel it pounding in my chest. (By then I was having a panic attack anyway!)

It happened again tonight while doing evening stretches. Just dropped out of the blue. I feel like, it's possible my heart rate is dropping during stretching exercises...but not as low as it is showing.

Is this a common issue with this watch? I noticed someone from like 9 months ago complained of something similar (on runs) and had their watch replaced.

  • Now you learned: heart rate measured by an optical sensor on your wrist isn't reliable at all.

  • The heart rate monitor on the watch is quite inaccurate and mostly lags behind…. especially when doing HIIT routines which involve hand movements. i don’t understand why garmin can’t fix this. i have tried all tricks lossening, tightening, restarting etc. nothing works…. apple watch gives far accurate and reliable heart rate readings .

  • Common issue with any optical HR reading watch, occasional errors in it's reading.  Sometimes super high, sometimes super low... sometimes in the middle, when it should be high or low - lol

Just a product of trying to detect blood flow pulses in skin capillaries with light!  a snug watch can help with the issue to some extent.
