Indoor cycling / Wahoo Kickr

I have several issues when training on my Wahoo Kickr and recording with the fr965. I also use a Tacx cadance sensor. I do not use the Wahoo app.

1. The speed registered by fr965 is much lower than when i use the Wahoo without the watch (e.g. 150W= 22km/h on the fr965)

2. I can only register power output and speed when i use the "free ride" feature on the fr965. When using a predefined workout i don't get power output, distance nor speed.

3. When i set the power on a fixed number in the Wahoo app, it stays fixed. On the fr965 it does not stay fixed when selecting a fixed power from the options.

4. When i press calibrate, the watch asks me to deconnect my shoes and gives a failure notice

Are there any workaround/tips to improve the connection between the two and get a more accurate reading of data on my watch? How do i calibrate my cadence/speed/power on the watch?

Thanks in advance

  • You’re missing a speed sensor. A cadence and power meter measure different things and neither can be used to calculate speed. The wahoo does measure speed so you either need to set it up as a separate speed sensor or likely an indoor trainer.

i am not sure if your watch can control the wahoo which requires ERG mode to be enabled. You may need to enable that directly on the wahoo. Check out: support.garmin.com/.../

Your power is never fixed. The Wahoo is constantly making adjustments to compensate for your changes in pedaling. Your watch is showing your actual power output at that moment.

Nor sure what sensor you are calibrating but Garmin isn’t going to be able to calibrate a Wahoo device.

  • Thank you for the swift and clear answer. Is it possible to do the training in the Wahoo app and export it to Garmin connect? Is it possible to use the fr965 as a heart rate sensor in the Wahoo app (Ive tried a bunch of times but it Cant seem to find my watch)?

  • I believe you can sync your activity from Wahoo to Garmin but you will be missing some metrics.

i would look at how you have your Wahoo configured on your watch and I think it will solve your issue. I used an indoor trainer with a Garmin cycling computer and have no issues. I also pair it with Zwift for the workout part.
