Garmin Coach Cycling: Which device do I need to use to start and record my trainings? Edge 1050 / FR 965

I have an Edge 1050 and a FR 965: can I use either device and it will sync with connect? I started a workout on the Edge yesterday and it still shows as "not done" in the trainer tab. Should I have done it with the watch instead? With both? oO

And in general, does it make any difference whether you use the Edge or the watch for cycling? Do they generally give the same data?

  • You can use either device. Your primary device will get the data, evaluate your metrics and overwrite the training metrics calculated by the secondary device after synching back and forth.

    Garmin recommends not to double record activities in general, even if the activity is not saved and deleted on other devices.

    I am not sure why they give this recommendation given the synching described above. Maybe there are some cases where the same sensors are not connected to all the devices and that could lead to some sub-obtimal data feed to the primary device...
