Trying to record basketball activity on Forerunner 965 from HRM Pro strap

Hi All,

I'm trying to record my basketball games as an activity using the HRM Pro chest strap data and leaving the watch in my bag.

Here's what I am trying to do:

1. Put the chest strap on and let it sync

2. Start the basketball (indoor) activity on the 965

3. Put the watch in the bag

4. Sync the chest strap after the game

5. Stop the activity on the 965.

When I tried this as a little test for 2 minutes of jogging around the house, none of the heart rate data synched from the HRM Pro back to the F965.

Do you know what I am doing wrong here?

Thanks,
Ben

  • If you want your HR data to appear in the activity itself (and the strap isn't connected during the activity), I think you have to select the Download HR menu item on the activity after you save it.

If you want other data from the HRM-PRO to sync (such as steps and intensity minutes, where applicable), I think you need to have your HRM-PRO paired with the Connect app on your phone.

However, I think there should be enough range to leave your HRM-PRO connected during a game (unless you leave your bag in your car or in the locker room.)

I actually play indoor basketball with an HRM-PRO and FR955:

    - Like you, I leave my watch in my bag, on the bench

    - I keep my HRM-PRO strap connected during the game (there's def enough range, even when playing full court)

    - I use stryd for speed and distance (although speed and distance from the HRM-PRO works, too)

    - When the activity is done, I don't select Download HR (if the watch tries to automatically download HR, I cancel it). The reason for this is that HR data is already in the activity, and I've actually found that downloading HR can corrupt activity data

So basically the only extra data (not recorded during the activity) that I rely on the HRM-PRO to sync after the fact is steps. For a while this wasn't working for me, but it seems to be working now.

  • Thanks for the reply - yeah I'll be leaving my watch in a bag on the bench too and playing full court.

It turns out my problem was way simpler (and stupider) - I had the HRM Pro paired to my phone but not the watch (I just got the watch yesterday). Now once I've synced to both, it works fine.

    Cheers
