Wifi Syncing Error (1 file failed / no wifi connection available)

A few days ago I noticed that my watch began to fail syncing over Wifi. When I choose Sync from Control center with wifi enabled (and phone is disabled) it starts syncing but in 3 seconds says 'No app or Wi-fi connection available'. When I go to Settings > Connectivity > Wifi and click Sync there, it also starts syncing and in 5 sec says 'Transfer complete (1 file failed)'. See the step-by-step screenshots below.

What I have already tried:

  1. Soft reset ('light' button for ~15 sec, then wait ~30 sec, then start the watch).
  2. Updating to the latest firmware (20.29 to 20.31), then soft reset.
  3. Connecting to PC with cabel and syncing over Garmin Express. Then soft reset.

On each of attempts I've received the same outcome as displayed below on the screenshots. In the meanwhile, syncing via Garmin Connect app on iOS works fine, no errors.

I don't use wifi syncing often, so it's not a big problem for me. But it's a bit diasppointing, because I prefer my fresh new watch to work stable, with no problems.

Is it a common issue and what is the solution? I found only one post on this topic (see item 3 above), but it did not help.

Syncing from Control center:

Syncing from the Settings:

  • Same problem for me. It synced 2 other runs but didn't sync my long run for today. Maybe its the file size? I have the 265 instead of the 965.

  • Try syncing over USB cable - How Do I Manually Upload an Activity I Recorded to Garmin Connect? | Garmin Customer Support

If that fails, possibly a corrupt activity fit file. Zip then attach the file here. Someone might be able to repair it.

  • Just synced with the cable and it worked fine. I'll try to sync a short run on Tuesday and see if it works over wifi.

  • UPDATE, again...

Just synced 2 more shorter runs over wifi with no problems. The only difference so far is the length of the run (20mi, 3:35). Everything shorter has synced fine. I have a Marathon in 2 weeks. Ill post again if I have problems syncing another REALLY long run over wifi.

  • I am new to that method. Where can I find these .fit files? And how to detect which one leads to ‘failed’ error?

  • I looked through the activity history both in my watch and Garmin Connect - all activities seem to be synced. As for the activity duration - there are some differences between GC and watch, but they are less than 1 sec (probably different rounding).

Any suggestion what to try more against this error?

  • UPDATE again...

Same problem. Had 3 runs on my watch to sync. 2 shorter runs synced fine over wifi. My marathon run (26.5, 4h45m) run did NOT sync over wifi. I had to sync it manually with the cable. If it states somewhere that large files can't sync over wifi, I haven't seen it. Obviously it's not a huge deal for me. My question is, is it the time or the distance that is the issue. Also, i'm also using an older foot pod so maybe there is extra data in the files? The foot pod uses ANT+ for communication but works fine with the watch and I use it on all my runs.
