Pairing 1040 Edge with Forerunner 965

I am happy with the pairing option on my 1040 and my 965. Nice to be able to see my heart rate (recorded off my 965) on my 1040 Edge Display (extended display function).  Problems arise when I return to my apartment after a ride. Garmin Edge recognizes both of my devices and posts my ride off both devices onto Garmin connect. So now I am seeing reports of my total mileage which are twice as long as they should be. How do I tell my 965 not to record my ride when my ride is already recorded on Garmin Connect off my 1040 Edge?

Side issue. Sometimes I go running on my 965. So how do I tell my 965 to report on my run to Garmin connect when I am running and not riding?

  • I am in the same case (1030 Edge + FR965) and I don't save the activity on the edge at the end of my ride. Doing this I lose the data regarding the temperature for example

Garmin should propose a way to keep the data not duplicated and coming from several devices used in the same time but I think that they should be overloaded by trying to fix the different bugs listed in this forum and related to the FR965

  • I don't have Edge device (yet) bur how about recording biking on Edge and just transmit HR from 965 to Edge?

Settings > Health and wellbeing (or smth like this, I am translating it by myself) > Transmit HR

It is possible to map it as a hotkey as well

  • Why not just saving it on the watch and discarding on the edge?

  • Why recording at all if there is no plan to save?

I am really curious about this as I am going to buy Edge 840 soon

  • I'm doing as you suggest. My 965 and my 1040 are paired. I can follow my heart rate on my 1040 while riding.

  • Recording on the edge means it can display the distance since you began.

Recording on the watch means you have more activity profiles (i.e bike commute, touring, etc)

You can chose where you prefer to record it. It can be both as well, just don't save it on both devices
