20.29 Bug? Recovery hours didn't sync from 1040

So, for the first time since spring I did two short indoor rides tonight, where the Flux 2 trainer was controlled by FulGaz, but the rides recorded by my Edge1040 (still on v21.18). At the same time I started Cardio Activities on my 965 just to get the pulse right, but discarded them when done. Now after an hour and multiple syncs the recovery time still has not updated on my 965? Everything else matches, training load, training focus etc are the same and I can see the rides on the watch. But still, it tells me zero recovery hours, but at the same time that it has increased due to activity... It's the first time I've seen this, but haven't used the trainer for a long time and therefore haven't had the need to start some bogus activity for the pulse, and it was the first time with the 1040. Ideas anyone?

  • Which device is the primary activity device and primary wearable?

  • So maybe that's the reason. I only have Edge Explore 2 which lacks some of the relevant features that the 1040 has, but to me Garmin support told to use the forerunner to record the activity and discard the activity on the edge, this way the watch, which is the primary device will know everything. Additionally there are more bike sport profiles on the watch.

But I think in theory this should work with 1040. Do you have the TrueUp (or whatever this is called, that synchronized between all your Garmin devices) enabled on both devices?

  • Yes I have, and this usually works fine. What differs this time is that it was my first "ride" with the 1040 where I also started an activity on the watch (to get proper pulse there). I did like this all last winter with my 1030+ and that worked just fine.

Next time maybe I'll skip starting anything on the watch, since 1040 and 965 should have the same "version" of TrueUp, then maybe the daily pulse history will be ok anyway?

  • I don't know, you'll need to try it. However I can say this for sure: you don't need to start an activity on the watch only to get a HR reading. What I do is I go to my shortcuts (long click on the light button) and I have Broadcast Heart Rate. I start it at the beginning of the activity, that I record in the edge. In the edge you'll see your HR (and also records it with your activity).

Another thing you can do (but as far as I understand you have better options with the e1040 than I do with the ee2) is to record it on the watch. You also start the activity on the edge, it's good to see all the stats and map, navigation, just that at the end you stop and save on the watch, and stop and discard on the edge.
