It's quite unusual my Garmin Forerunner 965 did not surpass 140bpm during a 5km uphill run, on previous lower market watches I am accustomed to higher heart rates during such workouts.

Yep tightened to be sure, but seems to be the case with every workout
Strange. I have fr965 for a year and I don't see a problem in general. The only persistent issue I know about is one that is known to be with the optical HR sensors, that it lags a few seconds because of the way the algorithm smooths out the numbers. This is not noticeable during "regular" runs, but is during quick short intervals. In my case we do a short (45sec) uphill sprint, and when I stop at the top and start to walk down I can still see that my HR is increasing. I'll add that this was one of the reasons I bought a Polar H10, and it's better when I wear it, though I can still see this for a shorter period of time, I guess with age another issue gets into the picture: the time my heart needs to react.
Can you record a workout with both watches and show us the difference?
How sure you are the old cheap watch was right and the garmin isn't?
Hi,
I have a Polar H10 and the issue I have is that it disconnects after a while. Initially I thought it's the Polar H10, but brought it to service and it's the same.
