Unable to reschedule any future training from Garmin Coach

Hi everyone,

I use the Garmin Coach plan specified for the event (not using an actual coach like coach Jeff or Amy) so the workouts are planned by the watch. Unfortunately, I found out that I have no option whatsoever to reschedule a FUTURE training (the one that has not happened yet). Example: It's Monday, I want to reschedule Wednesday's training to Tuesday.

I followed the instructions provided by Garmin here https://support.garmin.com/en-ZA/?faq=IkvWNeIoSd48GIYCjkhlo7&productID=125677&tab=topics but I have no option that they provide:

1. On the IOS Garmin Connect app I do not have 3 dots available next to the scheduled workout. Therofre no option to click reschedule.

2. On the Garmin Connect WEB application I do not have 3 dots available next to the scheduled workout.

3. On the Garmin Connect WEB application I tried dragging and dropping workouts in Calendar but it does not allow me to move the Garmin Coach workouts.

Even on the Garmin website, it says that it is possible "If you know ahead of time that you won't be able to complete your next scheduled workout, you can reschedule it from one of these platforms." So WHY I can't have that option?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  • As today previous days workouts are not listed anymore in the daily suggestion! (Cycling Coach + Fenix 7 Pro). The Daily Suggestions sections just lists workout from the current day

  • Might have more luck posting in the Fenix 7 forum.

  • This is an older post - but this seems 'inflexible' to me.  'do whatever you want if you dont want to do what Garmin tells you'  Well - the Garmin put 3 threshold workouts for me this week during my 'base phase' which is incredibly stupid - even very seasoned coaches don't recommend running back to back speed workouts typically (especially not three of them).  I should be able to turn one of those into a base, or move them around to suit me instead of having 'ai' do it or whatever.  I want to make two of the threshold runs a base, and the base threshold - but I cannot do that without the 'ai' stepping on the workouts.

You are right. This is an odd instance of weekly planning, and it looks wrong.

With Garmin Run Coach, everyday is a brand new day. Unlike apps like Runna where the AI is at the training block level, here it is at the weekly level, updated every day.

You could have a few workouts you built in Connect and execute any of them instead of the daily suggestion.

Over time, the Garmin program will try to achieve a training focus & balance appropriate for your race or objective and an overall plan level periodization that drives the boundaries of each week training load.

  • Not sure if it was added later to the documentation than this post but currently this is what it says about rescheduling:

NOTE: Workouts can only be rescheduled if you are using a plan that takes advantage of one of the three experts, Greg, Amy, or Jeff. Other plans do not have the ability to reschedule workouts.

  • Still makes little sense.

Say today's supposed to be a training day for a certain type of run and weather is bad, and i still want to do that particular training.  The week is planned with other things to deal with in life.  And all these were planned out before the weather turns bad.

  • You nailed it.  The apps should at least give the flexibility.  It used to be able to do that.

  • Don't expect miracles from the algorithm. If you want it to take parkrun into account, put it in your calendar as an additional event (if you already have the main one). The Adaptive Algorithm is that it takes into account your condition of the day and suggests the best training for your abilities that day. And the fact that you have a training plan in a club means nothing. You don't take into account that it may be too long or, conversely, too weak training for the training balance of a given Direct Start Preparation microcycle. In this case, don't use Garmin Coach, if you don't like what it suggests. In my opinion, people are right here.
