Unable to reschedule any future training from Garmin Coach

Hi everyone,

I use the Garmin Coach plan specified for the event (not using an actual coach like coach Jeff or Amy) so the workouts are planned by the watch. Unfortunately, I found out that I have no option whatsoever to reschedule a FUTURE training (the one that has not happened yet). Example: It's Monday, I want to reschedule Wednesday's training to Tuesday.

I followed the instructions provided by Garmin here https://support.garmin.com/en-ZA/?faq=IkvWNeIoSd48GIYCjkhlo7&productID=125677&tab=topics but I have no option that they provide:

1. On the IOS Garmin Connect app I do not have 3 dots available next to the scheduled workout. Therofre no option to click reschedule.

2. On the Garmin Connect WEB application I do not have 3 dots available next to the scheduled workout.

3. On the Garmin Connect WEB application I tried dragging and dropping workouts in Calendar but it does not allow me to move the Garmin Coach workouts.

Even on the Garmin website, it says that it is possible "If you know ahead of time that you won't be able to complete your next scheduled workout, you can reschedule it from one of these platforms." So WHY I can't have that option?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  • On the Garmin Connect WEB application I tried dragging and dropping workouts in Calendar but it does not allow me to move the Garmin Coach workouts.

I can drag & drop workouts of a a self-guided plan to reschedule them without problems. But I wonder whether you really use Garmin Coach plan or rather just the race plan, which is in fact just a Daily Suggested Workout adapted to the race. There is no need to reschedule those, and they are not designed to be rescheduled, since they are generated based on your metrics and the training history.

  • Thanks, Trux for the answer. I am definitely using the Garmin Coach plan since it is visible in the Garmin Coach tab, I had to pick the working out days, and long run days. It also shows the phases like Build, Peak, Taper etc. When creating this plan I picked the event date as the end of the plan so I am sure these are not daily suggestions.

That is why I am baffled why can't I drag and drop these in the calendar or 3 dots not appear next to those workouts (like Garmin instruction says) or like all the users are indicating? I work in IT so I'm not unfamiliar with tech and to me, it seems either as a bug or I'm really doing something wrong here...

On the other hand, if I create manually a single workout I can edit/reschedule them easily. That's actually how I'm doing the workaround- If Garmin Coach is planning a workout on Wednesday and I want to do it on Tuesday I manually copy it and create a single workout and just put it in the calendar but it is extremely frustrating to do it every time you want to reschedule a future workout and I also believe it does not count towards my Garmin Coach target.

  • But still, it does not answer the question of why using the Garmin Coach Plans planned for specific events I don't see any options in the calendar. I will even attach the screenshot. No option to reschedule at the bottom of the training.

  • And for all of the trainings that are green (they are the Garmin Coach Plan) - none of them have options available to reschedule them. Why is that? It should not be this way surely?

Because this feature works differently than the standard Training Plans. It works in the same way as the Daily Suggested Workouts do - it is generated based on your current fitness level, Training Status, and other metrics, and your training history. The difference to the DSW is that there is a goal - the race. Rescheduling makes no sense at such plans, because the entry data changes from day to day. So what was generated for the Thursday is not necessarily good for you on Wednesday, or vice versa. However, if you need or wish to skip a training, or do something else than suggested, you can do, and the training plan will adapt accordingly.

  • I just ran into the same issue. I found a workaround though. Lets say Garmin Coach Plan planned a workout for you on Wednesday but you want to do it on Tuesday just select the Workout on your watch when you start your run.

Run--> click the three dots on the left side --> Training --> Training Library -->  Daily Suggestions --> Scroll to Wednesday --> select your run --> click Do-Workout

  • Thanks guys for the answers! I just really don't understand why Garmin is not using semantics clearly. They put the Training Plan with a Goal under the Garmin Coach plan however as Trux is suggesting it works just like the DSW but with a goal. And the watch confuses users because it looks like a Garmin Coach Plan with setting up days off/long run days, and phases. Can't they just write on the website that the rescheduling is the only option for manually added workouts or workouts planned by real Garmin Coaches (Jeff, Anna etc.)

I've had my Garmin for about 2 weeks and the amount of features and options is amazing but some of them are so complicated or there are so many different ways to use them that I feel even Garmin engineers forget how many there are and the support articles don't mention it at all. And the Garmin community is so extensive becuase people need to help each other with workarounds to use the watch with proper UX.

Anyway, thanks for the help guys!

  • I have hit the exact same issue. I wanted a plan for a 20 miles race so used the Garmin coach rather than any of the "real" coaches which I used for a HM prior to that and I cannot move any workout around even though they are in the calendar! How dumb is that!? Why are they in the calendar at all if they cannot be rescheduled and how hard could it be too fix this? As a software engineer myself, I'll go on a whim and say: not effing hard! Probably just switching a Boolean from false to true or vice versa...

Because it is not needed, and it would make no sense. What was good for you today, will not necessarily be good for you tomorrow. Instead of it, the watch will generate a new workout for you, taking into account your training history and your current training status.
