Route tracking drift problem

I used to run with a fenix 6 pro and I was not happy with the quality of the GNSS tracking ability in bad conditions (like near high buildings), so I upgraded it to a forerunner 965, which has dual band GNSS.

I set up the navigation to use all satellites and both bands, and tested it in an open park but the result is way worst than before!

Fenix 6 Pro - one good example.

As you can see, I ran in circle multiple times, and you can see that the paths in and out to and from the park overlap as expected. This track is very good to me.

Here is what i got from the forerunner 965 in a sunny day, and same park:

same running in circle, same paths to get in and out.

At the begnning it was all good, but after the first laps, you can see an increasing drift to the north that reaches 30/40 meters. I swear I cannot run on the water!

The software is version 20.26, the latest at this moment.

What am i supposed to do?

Thanks for your help

Stefano

  • Another example:

same park, cloudy weather without rain, almost the same path around the lake.

GNSS setting on automatic, here is the result:

After a couple of laps, near the bus stop at the north there are some trees that cover the sky and probably block the signal. I can totally understand and accept an error in that point (even if the Fenix 6 pro did not do that), but from that point onward the whole track inherits that error and is shifted to the north.

Also the quota is not thowing a periodic signal:

whereas the fenix 6 pro did.

Any comments? Does anyone experience the same problem?

    Thanks for your help

  • As suggested by the support I reset the watch but today I got the same problem.

same park, not too cloudy weather, same drift. only the first and last laps are correct.

(the upload of pictures does not work anymore so I cannot share the track of the new activity)

  • Don't have a solution unfortunately, but got linked here from my own post: https://forums.garmin.com/sports-fitness/running-multisport/f/forerunner-965/385972/forerunner-965-location-suddenly-very-off/

Seems to be a similar issue, allthough I'm not sure if your 965 ever worked correctly. Mine did for about 10 months, untill it suddenly changed and now every run is off to a certain extend.

Following this, hopefully someone will comment with a solution.
