Battery consumption fw 20.26 increased

My 965 has increased battery consumption after 20.26 update. Is a further update planned to overcome this annoying issue?

  • Bonjour

  • Hi! I have the same problem. It looks like some process keeps running after the workout is finished. I am in the beta program and the problem appeared in test builds about two months ago. In the stable build the problem persists. Usually the battery consumption was about 5-6% per day. Now it is about 14% per day. Previously at night the consumption was 1%, now about 4%. Restarting the watch temporarily solves the problem.

  • I feel the same. There is only the third charging cycle for my watch. And right after I charged it to 100%, the battery dropped to 99% in 5 min with no intense usage. Before 20.26 on 100% the battery estimated 23d lifetime, now - 21d. Sure, I noticed the battery drain even before charging the watch fully but didn’t have any evidence in numbers.

By the way I also noticed that in 20.26 when you tap Start button from the Home screen, there is no battery time estimation anymore. Previously I could see estimated time for GPS mode here (like 28h left) and compare it to smartwatch mode on Glances screen (like 22 days).

  • Well, I found the battery estimation for activities. It was moved to activities options menu - e.g. choose Run, tap and hold Options button. So now there are 3 battery estimation types: smartwatch (like 21d) on Glances screen, GPS activity (24h), non-GPS activity (48h). But it become less convenient due to the extra button click.
P.S. I also installed 20.29 - there is no battery drain fix in release notes. But let’s see.

  • In the description of changes in version 20.29 there is such an item:
Fixed incident detection remaining active after activity.
Perhaps this is the process that continued to work after the activity ended and consumed the battery charge. Perhaps... I will keep an eye on it.

  • I don't know if it's because of 20.29 or the fact that I've now disabled incident detection for all activities, but my drain has now finally stopped.

  • Hi, How much percentage did it drop lets say, within 12 or 24 hour?
    And what is it now?

  • I did restart after writing this post and it doesn't help. Should restart after every activity prevent battery drain? My watch is also synced instantly after workout.

I definitely don't want to do restart after every activity, I want that Garmin fix this.

Is possible to downgrade a firmware? Otherwise I will contact local support to get new watch and hope it has older version on it.

  • do you think a new watch will help?..
