Altimeter calibration issue on Garmin Forerunner 965 beta 20.26

Hi everyone,

I've been using the beta version 20.26 of the Garmin Forerunner 965, and for the past two days, the altimeter has not been calibrating correctly. I've tried calibrating it through GPS, DEM, and manually. While it initially shows the correct altitude (580m in my case), it doesn't stay accurate and jumps to over 7000m. I've also tried restarting the watch, but that didn’t help. Disabling the barometer didn’t fix the issue either. Has anyone else experienced this problem? I know of another friend who has had the same issue with his Fenix 6.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

I suggest report a beta bug also.

This is a beta firmware... if you dont want issues or at least less, use only stable, or if you use betas, inform garmin about

They did a live release of 20.26, just after the beta

I have the same watch (without using Beta versions) and am experiencing the same altimeter problems (Sep 2024). I start/end at the same place (595ft), but it always thinks i end about 100ft lower. This surely messes with the NGP. Wish they would fix it.

After the 20.26 update altimeter on my watch has also been unreliable. A few outdoor activities where elevation graph totally flatlined and didn't give any ascended or descended meters. Then one activity where it flatlined for 1,5 hours and only 7 minutes before ending the altimeter woke up.

I've done some testing and endeed this seems to be a bug introduced by sofware version 20.26. When not recording activity, the altimeter works totally normally and counts floors as it should. Also the altimeter widget draws coherent graph. But if I start an activity, altitude information gets stuck to whatever the elevation was at the beginning of activity. And it stays stuck unless I go to altimeter widget during activity. After that the altimeter starts to work and keeps working for the rest of the activity. In the screenshot this shows clearly. The elevation graph flatlines unless I go to the elevation widget (the moment marked with an arrow) and then close it. And it seems that I have to do this every time I start a new activity if I want the elevation data to be logged correctly.

PS. I'm using the official version 20.26 release. I'm not participating the beta program.
