Hearing a serial number (?) when connecting to headphones

When connecting Bluetooth headphones to my Forerunner 965, the voice prompt says a long number (perhaps a serial number?). The numbers and letters are spoken so fast that it sounds like gibberish, for example, “connected to… rev21280903702.” I have renamed my watch using Garmin Connect. Is this normal, and how can I rename my watch so that I don’t have to hear this every time I connect?

  • That’s the device name of the headphone. Depending on the manufacture it maybe a serial number or device ID. Some manufactures allow you to change the device name via thier app.

  • Thanks, but I’m not sure that’s accurate. I recently switched to the 965 from an Apple Watch; when I paired the same headphones with the Apple Watch, the voice prompt said “connected to (my Apple Watch name).” The headphones are connecting to the watch, not vice versa. Thanks again.

  • Then that’s likely the device ID of your watch. Check the system info on the watch and see it matches either the serial number or perhaps the ID of the Bluetooth radio.
