Open Water Swim (OWS) Workouts

Surprised Open Water Swim workouts can't be programmed on the watch or Garmin Connect. I used to be able to do this with the 945 (using intervals) if I am remembering correctly. Any workarounds you've come up with?

Are you sure about the 945? As I remember OW workouts have not been available at any unit historically(?). They should!!!
My workarounds have been laps or warnings, then you need to count if there are different lengths in the workout of course. Plus Tempo Trainer for time intervals.
My experience is that the buzzer should be enhanced some for doing OW. If I know about how long distance I have covered, and expect a lap (interval) and I am a little alert, I will notice. But otherwise it is easy to miss. At least for me.

I think you're right - maybe it was just an activity I created with intervals instead of OWS. Still not sure why this option isn't available. Seems super simple to add.
