Garmin Explore vs Garmin Connect app

I have a Forerunner 965 (and some other devices, but those are not supported in Explore) and in my phone I installed both Garmin Connect and Garmin Explore app, but I am a bit confused. Do I need the Garmin Explore app? If yes, for what? Both apps seem to do the syncronisation and software update. Is there anything the Explore does that Connect doesn't?

Garmin explore can be useful to send POIs to your Device. Also to plan routes with similar maps as you have on the 965.

I have this Software update notification all the time. I am on 20.21 beta. There's no update after that yet, there's no update available on the watch

Maybe related, but interestingly I only see it in Explore. Not in Garmin Connect, not in the watch
