Garmin 965 treadmill distance very short

My treadmill distance marks a mile on my 965 when the treadmill consistently says I have done about .8 mile- so by three miles, the distance is vastly different and my Garmin perceived pace is way faster than what I am.  Help!  How do I fix this?

  • Have you calibrated the watch after your treadmill run?

Have you validated your treadmill is correct…the belt will stretch overtime.

Your watch will only be accurate for a given pace so if you are running sprints and then a slow recovery you are going to have distance.

  • You will never fix this. Even with an external sensor you will always have some difference to the distance on the treadmill. You will get close with a Stryd footpod or a Runn sensor.
You can also try calibrating the watch and enter the real distance after you stopped your run, but if you use different pace/cadence or you move your arms different, it will again be off.

  • The watch is using cadence from outside to determine your pace based on cadence/pace matches outside.  However pace and cadence is not super accurate or correlated so there will be often error.  All you need to do is once complete, select Calibrate and Save from the menu on watch.  Enter real distance from treadmill.  Quick and easy , the further you are from 'normal / average /everyday pace' typically greater the error for me (or if I run at inclines that are >2%).  I don't put much stock in the pace data on the watch after the fact... knowing it was treadmill, it is what it is on tread... make notes in the description with paces and the type of workout if it was a 'workout' day.  Otherwise if recovery or aerobic easy day...  pace within the run is pretty steady and doesn't really matter for me.
