Change vo2 max "focus"?

Currently my watch is displaying my vo2 max chart for cycling (in the Training Status app), is it possible to change that to running instead?

If not, what does it take before it switches automatically?

  • According to this article, there is a priority for VO2 max estimates, if and when they become available. When a type of VO2 Max becomes unavailable for 30-days, and no upper priority new VO2 max can replace it, then it defaults to the next lower priority source of Vo2 Max if available.

    - road running

    - trail running

    - multisport

    - cycling

    - walking

    - all day HR data

However, with recent firmware, something has changed. Sometimes, I see a cycling VO2 Max being used although I just completed a valid run, and I run valid runs several times a week, so no 30-day expiration had any chance of occuring. The following day, the running VO2 Max is used again.

So apparently, there is a change or a bug.

  • OK thanks. But what I read from that article is that cycling is a separate one not affected by the 30 days expiration rule?

So why is the training status widget favoring to display my cycling one insterad of the run/walk one, although I have more recent runs, and also with an increasing value?

I have seen the same thing. This contradicts the online documentation.

Mine is flipping between VO2 Max cycling and running, not necessarily after a corresponding activity, and not always.

It seems indeed that a higher cycling VO2 Max number would supersede the running VO2 Max number, until something happens the following day(s) and it goes back to running VO2 Max.

The training status does change accordingly from becoming productive back to maintaining.

So, it is either an undocumented change in the rules being used, or it is a bug with recent firmware (17.xx).

  • can you shed some light on this topic?
