Training plans - fixed workouts into the mix

Hi

curious - I want to start a training plan (for instance, 10k running plan) and I already have two set workouts (group trainings at a gym) each week.
What is best way to incorporate them into my schedule?

Keep the days as "off" days and just record them per normal and the plan will adjust itself? or keep them as training days and just ignore the suggested workouts the plan generates?
I don't want it to add extra rest days just because I have these two sets (one is just balance/flex and doesn't tire me)..

  • Can be tricky to mesh in supplemental training into a fairly busy/full/tough running plan, which can often feel tough on its own as it builds!

Best to keep Hard days hard, and easy days easy... so on workout/hard days - good to add these to those days (unless that balance/flex is so easy its almost like recovery stuff, then good for an 'easy day').  So essentially hard days you are doing a double if you have two 'hard workout / faster days' mid week and a long run on Saturday  want to emphasize recovery and easy on the days between those 'hard' days.  If you want to prioritize your lifting , lift first in the day... if you want to prioritize Run (or bike) try to do that first in the day.  Make sure you are fueling well the night before hard days as well as while training the day of doubles, even if body recomp/weight-loss is a goal.... will want to fuel before/during/after for fitness gains and to ensure you can keep up the efforts for days/weeks/months...  recover/fuel hard... lets you train hard... training hard (effort & duration), gets you the benefits in fitness/health.  :-)

if training plan has only one speed day... then you can fit in that extra workout on a aerobic/easy day that is a day removed from long run and a day removed from next speed/hard workout.  (so if long is Saturday and next planned hard is on Wednesday... could do on Monday the supplemental Lift/Spinclass/Balance/etc)
