Can’t complete Spotify sync…

Is anyone else now unable to sync with Spotify?  I recently updated to 19.18, though that may just be a co-incidence.  Today I have been unable to sync with Spotify - the wifi connection is good but syncing  shows progress to only 2 or 3% or so, stalls and then sync fails. For the last 12 months, the sync process has always proceeded flawlessly.  I’ve tried forcing a restart on the 965; disconnecting and re-registering with the wifi network; de registering and re-authorising  Garmin Connect connection app with my Spotify account.  Nothing has resolved the issue.  In the process, all the music was removed from my 965 and now I can’t replace it.  Any ideas?  Thanks!

  • Please attempt the following troubleshooting steps, taken from I Am Having Issues with Spotify on My Garmin Watch

    • Make sure the watch is connected to a secure Wi-Fi network.

    • Ensure that you are paired with the Garmin Connect app on your phone via Bluetooth® and remains connected throughout the sync.

    • Charge the watch battery to 100% before attempting to sync.

    • Keep the watch connected to a power source while syncing.

    • Keep the watch within close proximity to the Wi-Fi router when syncing.

    • Limit Wi-Fi usage with other devices on the network when syncing.

      • Activities like streaming videos and playing online games can limit the bandwidth available to the watch and cause the sync to fail.

    • If syncing Podcasts, allow the artwork to display on the watch prior to starting the download. If the album artwork is not displayed on the watch, the Podcast download may not complete.

If the above steps did not resolve, please try the following:

    • Plug in the charging cable to a wall outlet near or at the same outlet as the Wi-Fi router or satellite.  Watch should not be attached to the charging cable yet.

    • Open Spotify app on watch.

    • Select audio content to download.

    • Once sync begins, connect watch to charging cable.

    • Wait for sync to complete.

If you are still getting the "Sync Failed" message, let me know. May I have permission to reach you via email if necessary?

  • Hello - thanks for your response.  I have followed your suggested steps carefully and still can’t complete a sync. I have also uninstalled and re-installed the Spotify app.  I am currently attempting to sync a single, short playlist.  All other music has been deleted. Please let me know if there’s anything else I can try.  As I said before, my Spotify function has been operating perfectly for 12 months and this syncing issue began only after the most recent update.  Yes, please contact me by email if necessary.

    Thank you.

    John

  • I have this exact same problem with my Tactix 7 Pro and none of the mentioned Garmin’s suggestions help.

  • I did find a solution to this issue.  I discovered that I was able to sync with Spotify using a different WiFi network - I had been using my network at home, so I tried at work, where the sync proceeded normally.  So that pointed the finger at my home network.  To cut a long story short, the problem was resolved by changing two settings in the WiFi network security settings on my WiFi router: I changed the protocol from “WPA2” to “WPA+WPA2” and disabled an additional security setting labelled “Protected Management Frames”.  After these changes, I have been able to connect the 965 to the home network and to successfully sync Spotify reliably.  The mystery - to me - is why the problem arose suddenly in the first place.  There had been no changes in the WiFi router settings - they were the same for the duration of the 12 months I’ve been happily syncing without issue. The router firmware has been the same throughout.  The only “event” prior to the onset of the problem was the Garmin 19.18 firmware update and that might be a complete co-incidence.  In any event, I can’t identify a reason for the sudden incompatibility in the security wifi network protocols.  I’m only pleased it was fixed.  The solution was found accidentally.

I hope you find a solution.

  • Unfortunately I am unable to get the sync to work on any WiFi Pensive

  • I managed to get it work again by switching (downgrading) my Wi-Fi router’s security to WPA personal + TKIP.

  • Pleased you found a solution which is the same as mine:  downgrading the router security settings. I still don’t understand the root cause of the change, but happy my Spotify is still syncing.
