Adding FTP with both Heart-Rate AND Pace?

I did a medical supported threshold Test (FTP) and the result was:

  • 175bpm (HR)
  • 04:00 (Pace per Kilometer)

I tried adding these values to my Garmin FR 965.

Surprise: you can‘t specify the Pace.

So when requesting my FTP in GC or on the Watch itself, it still shows the former pace of 04:15/kilometer which has been determined by the watch per auto FTP recognition in previous Runs. But with the new HR of 175bpm!

Garmin is there any way to specify the FTP Pace???

There is no end-user input for the Threshold Pace.

auto FTP recognition in previous Run

Do not trust blindly the auto-detection during runs. If the run is not a threshold-like run (ie around FTP level for at least 30mn), the estimates will be off slightly. This happens to me often when I run speed repeats.

However, the built-in threshold test works quite well. In my case, it is extremely consistent with other platforms and tools models, and with field FTP test, FTP-level races like 10ks, etc.

You can keep this auto-detection on, and then reject the value. This is what I do. When I get a new auto-detection value, I reject it and i know I should run a new guided threshold test to confirm either way.

Finally, note that the Garmin auto-detection gave you an estimate within 6% of your lab test. That is pretty good accuracy, but it is still a significant difference when you have to run 1h like this to confirm :-)

  • I do not trust;-)

It is just „funny“ the watch is still showing the previous Pace with the new FTP.

In my opinion it is a bug.

    Thank you for clarification!
