Gesture not working during run

Settings during activity:

AOD - off

Gesture - on

Red shift - on

Timeout - 8 seconds

Software - 18.27

During running the gesture activity doesn't work when I raise my wrist, it works fine during other activities and when in general use. Software has been updated to the latest 18.27.

  • As you can see in the first pinned post, the latest firmware is 19.18.

  • Are you saying it works with other Activities you use / select (like Walk, Hike . Trail Run ?)  , just not the RUN activity?

I have had no issue with the Gesture , although I have AOD on , red Shift Off and Time out 15s (Im on 19.18 now but didn't have issues before)

  • During runs I have very poor gesture detection. Very often the gesture isn't recognized and all I see is a black screen.

It depends on the kind of run. If I train at my club on a track I don't want to disturb my running form by making a huge arm swing. When I do long runs, it is easier to make huge arm swings to wake the screen. And even then it is not always recognized.

Only thing to do is turn on AOD and have the batterylife penalty. Garmin isn't going to improve the gesture detection, they told me.

( As you could see in the first pinned post, the latest firmware 19.18 wasn't rolled out 100% at the time this post was made)

  • I have the same problem. While running, the gesture function is not sensitive enough! In daily use and other activities, I could not detect the problem.

  • I don't look at my watch much when running, but I sometimes notice this problem when walking and it has been going on for several versions.

  • I have the same issue on my Forerunner 265s and it's very annoying... The gesture is insensitive when I run, the faster I run the worse it gets. Sometimes I have to turn my wrist 4 times to get the display to light up.

Would be nice to get it fixed asap, it works correctly during other activities so it's a matter of software setup in runs. I personally prefer that the gesture feature is too sensitive rather than not sensitive enough and fails when I need it.
