Fake plane mode

It is the plane mode a fake option? I have aa App bluetooth rastreator, and when  I turned of the conection with the phone, the App rastreator find the Garmin bluetooth activated. I need that the off when I am sleeping. Id you look, when you deactivate the airplane mode, the conection to the mobile is instant, as if it had never completely removed. Would it be posible to disconect it completely?

  • Do you know how your Bluetooth tracker app (which I think you mean by "rastreator") works? If it just shows "active" connections on the phone, shutting down Bluetooth on the watch doesn't necessarily show immediately on the phone. The idea of Bluetooth Low Energy is that the connection is only used when there is data to send, so the phone may imagine the connection is there even if the watch has already turned Bluetooth off. Can you sync your watch on the Connect Mobile app when the watch is on airplane mode? At least I couldn't with my 965.

  • Thanks, for the response. I don't know how the app works, it's called BT inspector. I check it with an iPad, not with the phone itself. But the garmin always appears with little intensity, but it is always there. As you say, if I put airplane mode on, connect cannot sync, I don't know if that implies that Bluetooth is completely disabled. I asked my question, because I am worried about Bluetooth radiation, and that is why I am afraid to use the watch, especially to sleep. That's why I would like to be able to disconnect all wireless transmissions from the watch. Thank you
  • Just for fun, I used a Bluetooth scanner on my Android phone, and it didn't find my 965 while it was in airplane mode (I waited for some time).

However, in any case the energy used by a Bluetooth Low Energy device like a smartwatch is very small, something in the range of 0.2 % of a phone. And the watch syncs with the phone only once in a couple of hours while your are sleep, so the amount of radiation is really really small.

If you wear your watch during night and want to minimize health impacts, keeping the watch clean and maybe even wearing it on the other wrist for the night (to reduce the possibility of skin irritation because of sweat and dirt) has much more impact than putting the watch on airplane mode.

  • I really apreciate your information! Thank you so much!
