battery consumption Garmin 965

Hi everyone,

I have a newly purchased Garmin 965, they say it can last up to 23 days of battery life in Smart Watch mode but in my opinion I don't get up to 10 days, with a 45min run with music and headphones it consumed 10%. It seems a bit much to me... what do you think? pulse meter disabled, alwayson disabled the rest standard

thank u

  • I don't know, I entered the Settings on the watch, then System, Software update, check for updates. Either this downloads it fir whoever tries thus, or I was in the 20% who it was rolled out to

  • Bluetooth is what kills the battery the most, so your runs streaming music to your headphones are the main battery drain. Same things happen with phones to be fair.

  • I never use it as watch only so never get 23 days.  Seems possible though.

I use the watch a lot, a few hours of running.  Couple of hours walking along with gym sessions 4 times a week.

I get 12 to 14 days which is amazing in my opinion.

It’s all based on your usage.  If you look at it all the time, we tend to when it’s new, then it will be less.  In addition using the music function kills the battery. I always have my phone with me so I use that instead.

  • Battery drain :

    monday 100% battery at 20:00

wednesday run 40 min AOD on, music on, map route on

Thursday swim pool 40min AOD off

today run 47 min AOD off, music on (battery before run 63% after run 55%

after 3 Hours battery 50% i dont hunderstand why…. I turned off the watch and restarted. (13.00 oclock.)

    now at 19.15 battery 50%

  • Are you using always on display at your activities? which software version do you have? Did the battery life improve after a while?

  • I use my battery to check on what the watch is using.  Yours does seem a little battery hungry.

that said, music and AOD are a killer. Personally indoor see the point of AOD in any circumstance.  The gesture works 99% of the time.  Though I understand some people like AOD.

As noted above with no AOD or music use.  I get around 2 weeks.  I used around 7% a day over the course of a charge.

  • The gesture works 99% of the time.

When I do high intensity interval training on a track, the gesture hardly works (for me), so I have to enable AOD for activities. Unfortunately you cannot turn it on for 1 specific activity.

Currently I have to charge my watch every 4 or 5 days. With battery below 30% I cannot go out on a long run or bike ride.

No music, gps in satiq, cheststrap, stryd. On long runs and bike rides I use maps/navigation. During activities battery usage is about 10% per hour. Quite disappointing.

  • Contact Garmin, that doesn’t seem right.  Perhaps it’s defective.

In terms of the gesture.  I think I have got into doing an exaggerated raise of my arm.  I don’t realise I’m doing it anymore.  Rofl

  • What ciq datafield's have you added to your ride profile?

  • how much is your battery consumption during an activity with aod off and navigation on?

I have a battery drain of round about 8% per hour.
