battery consumption Garmin 965

Hi everyone,

I have a newly purchased Garmin 965, they say it can last up to 23 days of battery life in Smart Watch mode but in my opinion I don't get up to 10 days, with a 45min run with music and headphones it consumed 10%. It seems a bit much to me... what do you think? pulse meter disabled, alwayson disabled the rest standard

thank u

  • Can I select only some notifications on the garmin? Because I can't. Either all or nothing

  • It depends what you mean on that.

In garmin connect android app I can do this:

Settings > Notifications > App Notifications > select which apps' notifications I'd like to receive on the watch. I unchecked all the "spammers", like WhatsApp, Hangouts, Gmail, and kept only the important things.

  • I have iPhones and I can't select notifications unfortunately. Or I don't know how to do it

  • I keep getting ridiculous responses from garmin customer support, so I'll keep posting them here. You'll see from this one that as far as Garmin is concerned if you get 1 week of battery life from fr965 then it's considered "great". This can mean one of 2 things: either they know about so many people who only get 4 days or less that I can consider myself lucky, or they always knew that 23 days is a lie, and 1 week is more or less the real life scenario. Here's their response:

"Connect IQ Items on the watch makes the battery life drain. I gave you my example of how I have at least a week and a half and honestly maybe 2 weeks with only 1 Connect IQ item.  You have 27 with 1 week of battery life, if you want a week and a half to maybe 2 weeks, I would recommend deleting them from Connect IQ which will delete them from your watch. Those can cause a degrade of battery over time. This is a troubleshooting step I would like for you to do. Over time this maybe connect IQ contents on your watch can worsen your battery.

Enrolling in beta is not going to fix "battery drain" problems. When updating watches or having updates through Connect IQ, that makes the watch battery drain so enrolling in another beta, is not something that will help fix it. I will be honest with you on that.
Again, 1 week is a great battery life. If you are seeing less than 4 days of battery life, we will have something to look into as that is considered rapid battery drain. 1 week or more is a great projection of battery life considering that battery life is based on usage of our watch.
When you delete those items and have tested this, please let me know! Otherwise, 1 week is again a great projection of battery life. "
  • Try connecting you watch to a computer with Garmin Express installed. Check if everything is updated, especially maps - I had mine stuck in the update loop that drained the battery pretty badly.

  • Already done that, thanks, there was nothing stuck.

  • One of the options that partially helped my wife's Venu 3 battery drain was to let the watch discharge completely, then hook it up to the charger (we used PC with garmin express launched), the watch should turn on by itself, wait for the watch to charge to 100% AND let it sit on the cable for another hour on top of that.

  • I can see that a new version of Firmware is being rolled out - try it, maybe that will help :)

  • Yeah, installed this morning, but since there's no mention of battery fix, just unrelated stuff and UI bug fixes, even Garmin don't think it will improve the battery situation

  • Is it already available via garmin express?

I unplugged my garmin watch on tuesday 12am. I did one hike with aod off for 2,5h and one run on the threadmill for 35min. Now I have 77% left.
