battery consumption Garmin 965

Hi everyone,

I have a newly purchased Garmin 965, they say it can last up to 23 days of battery life in Smart Watch mode but in my opinion I don't get up to 10 days, with a 45min run with music and headphones it consumed 10%. It seems a bit much to me... what do you think? pulse meter disabled, alwayson disabled the rest standard

thank u

  • Hi matteo,

are you using always on display? I am losing round about 6% battery per hour while running without music and display always on.

But two days ago I lost 10% per hour for a hike with navigation.

Download a battery widget from garmin iq store and check your battery consumption.

    Best regards

  • Hi,

I only use the always-on display when I run. I installed battery widget as you suggested.

A question? How long does the battery usually last? How many days do you recharge?

    Best regards

  • I also have my watch only 1,5 weeks ;) Thats why I cant say too much about the battery life. Normally I had round about 4% battery drain per day in smartwatch mode. So in mix usage it should long 15 to 20 days when you are not using always on display and music while a work out.

  • I have fr965 for almost a year. It never delivered close to the advertised days if battery life. However since a few weeks ago when I upgraded the firmware to the latest (non beta) 18.27 the situation became even worse. Since then the battery hardly lasts a week.

I do use AOD with the BIG EASY watch face, but that was the case also before the upgrade.

  • I have firmware 18.27 too, garmin can't declare up to 23 days battery life and then not get to the week.

  • I agree. Is it the same situation with other watches from garmin? Like the epix pro gen 2?

I have watched a lot of reviews and many were saying that they reach the battery life which garmin advertised.

  • WOW, I just received the official response from Garmin about the ticket I opened in Customer Support. It's clear that they know that 23 days is a lie, and try to get me to delete some of my apps, that are obviously unrelated to the battery frain that started recently, when the only change was the firmware upgrade.

Thank you for contacting Garmin Fitness Department of Product Support. I would be happy to assist you!

1 week is not terrible, I am seeing that you have 27 Connect IQ items on your watch and that can drain a battery over time and make it degrade. I recommend deleting/uninstalling the apps you do not use on your watch.

I also recommend you change some settings around by following this article: Tips to Extend the Battery Life on a Garmin Fitness Watch

1 week is not considered rapid battery drain so I recommend deleting some Connect IQ items and following the above article to see what else can be done to help get a couple more days out of it.
    Thank you for choosing Garmin,
  • So why make proclamations with 23 days of smartwatch battery life, does it mean turn everything off and use it only as a watch?
    Absurd

  • In Garmin everything works around proclamations (I call them marketing buzzwords). That's the reason that you always see the same patterns:
    1. they introduce a bug
    2. lots of people report it
    3. they don't fix it
    4. in the next quarterly software update they add some useless feature nobody asked for or knows why it's useful
    5. goto 1

  • I like this watch because it is very portable, light, to a nice display and undoubtedly has some excellent functions.

So we'll make a reason for it?
    battery life…
