Turn off touch screen

Hi All,

I have my touchscreen disabled (both for general use and in all activities), but I find that is still running in some situations. I often find when I wear it in the shower it gets to setting screens I don't recognize even though the touch should not be operating. When in this mode I can also navigate through the menus using touch. But I have changed all the settings I am aware of to ensure the touchscreen is not operating. Of course if I try to use the menu as normal, the touch does not work, but for some reason in some conditions it still will and I would prefer it not to. I have accidentally changed settings in the past and I prefer not to have this possibility.

Is anyone aware of a way to completely disable the touchscreen so this cannot happen?

  • There is a setting to turn off touch (which I assigned to a hotkey) but it seems to not work properly. I hope Garmin is already aware of this bug and will fix it.

  • Thanks for that.

Yes, I have found the setting, and it certainly does turn off the touch when I am in the setting, but I find the touch randomly works at other times. In particular in the shower, it can find all sorts of menus and settings. When it is in the menus the touch screen works as if I did not turn it off, but the setting is deifnately off. Clearly there is a bug in that setting.

  • All,

Thank you for sharing. , can you expand on how the Touch Hotkey is not working properly?

, may I have permission to reach you via email to further investigate?

  • You have permission to email me.

  • Hi Sierra,

I uploaded a video of the behaviour and emailed you more details. One thing to mention as that it is possible this behaviour only happens when the watch is in sleep mode with the changed display for sleep mode. I often have my showers in this mode and it may be that I have only had the behaviour in that mode but only twigged to it now.

  • There is a separate touch setting for sleep mode, have you set that to off as well?

  • I have just realised that now. I expect that is actually my issue. I assumed when you went into the settings under system->Touch that turning it off would overide everything else, but there is a setting elsewhere in the sleep settings that can overide that. Thanks for letting me know.

  • I have this same issue with my watch (touch activated in the shower, goes to random screens). Was there a fix?

  • The setting for sleep mode touch fixed me. Note that I have touch disabled for all times. If you have touch mode enabled when you have a shower you will probably get this issue. I prefer to use the buttons. My issue was that I thought I had disabled the touch, but I still had it on during sleep mode as I was not aware there was a seperate setting.

  • If you want to wear your watch in the shower, the best option is to either assign a hot key to turn touch on/off or to lock the watch (or add one of them to the control menu you access with the light key). Then just use those to disable touch while in the shower.
