Rapid battery draining issues since 18.27 update [FR965]

I have f965, I updated it to the new version 18.27. I turned off Pulse Ox and turned off allway display. I fully charged the battery last night and this morning it was at 58%. Does anyone have the same error?

  • I think (but I'm not 100% sure) it wasn't flashing 24/7 before the last firmware update. If I am right, then whatever change causes it to be flashing all day and night is probably the reason of the higher battery usage since the FW upgrade. But maybe I'm just imagining things. I think a few months ago it was only flashing occasionally and when I was in an activity or the HR widget.

Maybe if someone still with older FW reads this can confirm this? If you have a FW less than 18.27, please post here a: the FW version, b: whether the green LED is always flashing when you set the Menu > Health & Wellness > Wrist Heart Rate > Status to "Auto"

  • If you have 24/7 heart rate monitoring on (the setting on auto) it has/will always flash or be lit depending on situation. It will then only go dark a while after you take the watch off your wrist.

edit: if you’re talking about activities with a chest strap, you can make it turn off by setting ”source switching” to off

  • I logged my issue with Garmin via email and today got the response and exchange process.  I have the 955 Solar (although I've posted in various forums where the same issue has been) and it's still in warranty (just, I think.... bought it when it was first released).  Refurbished model to be shipped once I send this one back.  No questions from Garmin regarding the issue, only what I had posted in my original email - which was quite a short and sharp description of the issue and the steps I had done.

  • You know you're probably getting the watch someone else sent back last month with the same problem (or another bug)

  • yes it's a "certified" reconditioned watch.  But it comes with a 12 month warranty so am willing to give it a go.   If it works as expected I will be switching auto update off though!

  • Similar thing here, installed an app these last days to track battery consumption. Just charged it before sleep, and with the screen turned off during the night it spent almost 2%/h which is much higher than what I experienced previously.
