[Bug?] Multisport switching from running to swimming in pool uses GPS instead of 25m laps

Hello everyone,

Recently I started to use the duathlon option, recording a run as first activity and swimming in pool as second activity.
When I start one of these activities, it seems to work pretty well (okay; it doesnt recognize im doing a breastcrawl or w/e), but my swimming lap count seems to be quite accurate.

However, when I combine this in a multisport-activity, the 'Swimming in pool' for some reason seems to make a GPS activity out of it. Apart from the distance (like twice too far) tracking, I was expecting the same behaviour as the 'Swimming in pool' activity. Counting the lanes I swam.

Is anyone else having issues with this, am I missing something, or is this some sort of bug? And if so, how can I submit this somewhere?

  • Yeah. I did a sprint triathlon the other week, swam 12 lengths of a 25 m pool (which it acknowledges) and yet it recorded that as 8600 yards (in 7:30!).

  • I have to say that my last multi-sport went good. Perhaps I stayed (somehow) on the 'transition'-mode whilst swimming. Ending that ended the activity and meanwhile it tried t o use GPS and speed how far a swam.

Yesterday I tried another duathlon and seemed to have registered fine when I changed sport, by pressing the transition button, and when I pressed the lap button again, the swimming activity actually started.

Strava only synced the run and the short break of the transition and didn't sync the swimming at all, but seems to look fine in Garmin Connect. I contacted Strava about that issue.

If I have an update, I will post it here. For now it's a 1-1 as in 'good/wrong' when checking the garmin connect, and perhaps I messed up with the transition button. When I just tested again, pressing lap once auto-switches to the next sport after x seconds, but if you press it again whilst that time-out is going on, it enters a sort of 'rest-mode' in which you need to press the lap button again to start the next activity.

  • Was this fixed?

I would love to have a way lap pool and run in the same workout

  • I just asked for another update. Last conversation with Strava was 23rd may. I provided a workout with the data.
