What to do when an imported cycling workout doesn't register "Load" in Garmin Connect?

When I import cycling workouts from other devices to Garmin Connect, usually the Load is completely absent.  This occurs even if the workout contains Power data.  In this specific case, it is an export from a Spin Bike (a highly advance one on par with Peloton etc).

Is there anything I can do to account for this in my Garmin Training metrics?  I can't add a Load score to the workout when I edit it.  Can I manually add Load somewhere else?  Like in a dummy workout?

These are very intense sessions and the absence of them shows my Training Load, Load Focus, Training Status etc incorrectly too low.

  • Unfortuneatly you can't edit Training Load, Aerobic/Anaerobic TE, vo2max, results for any activity.

Supposedly, if you record the indoor bike with HR/ power via Zwift and have Zwift linked to Garmin it will utilize Garmin to calculate a Training Load/Stress from it... never done it however.

I always just record the activity with Garmin... AND on the 3rd party platform.  To get the Load / Recovery data all right for my "Training Status".  You should/might be able to connect the power meter of the indoor bike to your watch, I have done that in the past with Stages Spin bikes.

Vo2max and Training Stress sometimes (or always?) sticks around even if you delete a Garmin record activity after the fact... SO... you could record the Garmin watch workout AND record it on the third party platform... then delete the Garmin activity once its on GC, and then upload the third party file to get the Power and HR data for the ride.  Worth a test at least.   I used to have an issue were I would run with a bad HR data... easy 4miles (Zn1 to zn2 HR.... but would record it as 180-210bpm zone5+!) but garmin thought I was near or above my max HR for the entire run!!!!  So I would delete activity to remove the high training load and super vo2max 5.0 training effect activity... but it would still be in my Load, Vo2max, Recovery and Training Effect graphs!  ugh

  • Thanks, I hadn't thought of Zwift.  I do treadmill runs using a 3rd party app (with Stryd etc) and the only way to get Garmin to calculate a Load is if I also record using Zwift.  Same thing might work here.  I'll have to check and see if I can get Zwift to read the power from the Spin Bike (I'm already connecting to the bike through my phone using the spin bike's app).

Here's the bike.  I'll do some research and see how other users are tackling this problem, but the Zwift suggestion could be the answer.
