Running Power (and cadence) randomly drop to zero in the middle of a run

For my runs, running power mostly looks correct, but then there are random drops to zero, which make it pretty useless for tracking load in tools such as TrainingPeaks.

I noticed similar problems have been reported on other Garmin watches dating back more than a year.

Is there any fix for this?

  • Same issue on my garmin 265... right after this update. Waiting for a fix. I have tried restart it 3x but no success to fix it

  • Are you using an accessory or the watch to get cadence and power? If the watch, it is possible that there are times when you look at the watch (or some other non-running arm movement) that could pertubate the data. If you use an accessory, there could be connection issues.

  • I am not using an accessory. Yes, I do look at the watch occasionally (who doesn't?), but surely that shouldn't matter. It should still be able to estimate power reasonably well (much better than zero).

  • It does make sense for your cadence to drop to 0 if you look at your watch for a couple of seconds, and you’re getting cadence from wrist. Because of this, some people prefer to use a footpod for cadence.

If running power is also based on arm motion, I can see why it would also drop to 0.

  • Yes, but I've tried with and without HR strap. Same issue. Notice that the 3D speed/distance was causing this issue(only cadence). The weird thing was that in the watch the cadence was correct during the activity,  but the distance was totally wrong. In few seconds it recorded 60km. Insane!!

Also the elevation was wrong. But in thr strava app it got correctly from Garmin LOL.

Power always wrong, no workaround :/

So I get in touch with Garmin support, we've tried some steps but nothing worked. They are replacing my watch for a recertified one.
