Lap button with Garmin Coach workouts - do I press or not?

I’ve just started a running plan with Garmin coach. Today’s workout was a time trial. It shows some steps on the Garmin connect app for the workout. The first step was “Run 3.23km”. Then the next step is “other - lap button press”. And the third step is then the 1.6km time trial. My question is do I need to physically press the lap button on my watch after the first step or does it automatically move onto the next step? During the workout I did press the lap button and now I have the strange 12s lap in my workout summary between the step 1 and the 1.6km time trial.
