The Auto Position (auto lap) option for Forerunner Series

It has been many years since the Auto Position option was accidentally removed from your Forerunner watch. I am very surprised that a basic sports watch, as opposed to a travel watch, did not merit the attention to set and return this feature:
"The Auto Position option marks laps at a location where you previously pressed LAP".
Perhaps this deserves to be only for Garmin/Ideas and included in long plans to add to future firmware.

  • It was not removed accidentally, but as a 'consequence' of the major codebase rewrite between FR610 and FR620 in 2013 (the latter with the 'press-down' touch screen). They even removed Grade as a datafield, and several Last Lap X options for Heart Rate, Step X from Workouts etc. It truly was a disgrace. The fact that they never restored Auto Lap from position - whereas the Outdoors people seem to have embraced the concept - in spite of user wishes over the years, underlines the stubborness of the Sports section (management). But hey, we can have Nap detection and Sleep coaching galore!

  • Throwing hats now in the direction of the Forerunner software team and blaming them for the "shenanigans" of yesteryear would be wrong.
If everyone who wants this feature restored makes a request to garmin ideas, I hope we will see this feature in the foreseeable future, like the Forerunner 995, and maybe even sooner.

  • I can confirm that this feature is present on the outdoor models (epix2), for running activity at least. But the FR 955 doesn´t have it.
