Broken freestyle laps

Hi,

Swimming in a 25m long pool. I have a workout consisting of 8-lap intervals, where the first one is freestyle, the rest is breaststroke (s. screenshot). Sometimes the freestyle length is somehow broken into two lengths, i.e. my watch shows as if I had swum 50m (two lengths) instead of the one I actually did. Of course it breaks my whole workout as the time and other metrics are fine, but the distance is off (by 25m).

It happens sporadically. Any idea how to avoid it?

Or any hint at least how to fix the recorded activity manually?

Thx in advance!

  • I'm encountering a similar issue. When I design a swim workout featuring intervals (e.g., 8x50m), and I set a rest period for 30 seconds, I expect that upon completing the 50m swim, I simply press the lap button to initiate the 30-second rest, after which the next interval should commence automatically. However, this process doesn't always function as intended. Occasionally, pressing the lap button after an interval skips the designated rest period altogether. @Garmin-Sierra any suggestion?

  • Thx! I agree, I have the very same problem: sometimes I have to press the lap button 3x, to get the next swimming activity...

But that's actually another problem I could live with if necessary. But the "broken" freestyle lengths are messing up the swimming experience completely.

  • Well, that article defines the problem indeed, but what is the solution? The problem could be with my turns but (I do open turns) but it's not clear for me how to fix it

I do laps under 30-35 secs so it's not that slow (according to the article). I'm swimming at a constant pace w/o interruptions.

It says "The watch looks for a pause in strokes to indicate the user has reached the end of a length.". How can I help on that?

  • I'm swimming at a constant pace w/o interruptions.

Apparently the watch does not agree with this statement.

  •  It happened again today... Any hint how to fix this?

  • And it happened again in yesterday... For the very first time in case of a breaststroke length.

At least, I've found a tool (https://www.swimmingwatchtools.com/) I can edit (fix) the broken lengths with, but I have to find a way to avoid this mess during swimming as it makes tracking the activity a nightmare.
