Always On Display (AOD) is buggy in different ways

Hi all,

I wonder if I am the only one with these issues concerning the Always On Display:

  1. There is a software error: If you select the brightness "Extremely Low" in the "Display" -> "While Sleeping" menu, the brightness in "General Use" is set back to "Low" (from medium f. ex. ) and you can't change that. If you set the brightness in "General Use" back to "medium", the brightness in "When Sleeping" also changes to "medium". You can't get out of this cycle. Garmin has been aware of the error for months, see the forum, but no remedy has been provided.
  2. What bothers me is the display-on gesture if you chose AOD. There is no way to adjust the intensity of the gestures. The display jumps on at the slightest movement, so it constantly goes on and off.
  3. The brightness of AOD (low power) cannot be selected (not adaptively or manually) either. The display is far too bright. You only can change the overall brightness.

The Venu 3 by the way has both features (gesture intensity and adaptive brightness or a way to adjust the brightness of the Always On mode), so it's possible. I tested this personally.

I am interested in your opinion.
Thx in advance.

  • Really nobody who cares??

  • I hate the amoled screen of my 965 mainly because of the poor gesture recognition. Specially if I do high intensity intervals on a track it hardly works.

I would like to say, my next watch has mips again, but I’m afraid that’s not an option in a few years time. Most people prefer pretty and either accept the annoyances or use their watch in a different way. Garmin, and other manufacturers will  cater the many over the few who are annoyed by amoled (understandable)

  • Surprisingly, exactly the opposite of my observations... How can that be?

But to be honest, nothing surprises me anymore about the model...

My watch is configured with AOD always off. Yet, sometimes this happens. It looks like some in between state. AOD isn’t entirely on, but it is not off either.

I reported this in the beta period, but garmin didn’t looked into it.
