What has the Garmin watch done for you?

Just like the title says I am wondering what the Garmin watch has done for you? How has it changed your life? What do you like about it? What do you use it for? I see negatives everywhere about it. I have only had mine for a short while but it has done nothing but impact my life positively. I know most of this could be placebo, because I have something watching my every move and tracking all my stats good and bad. For me it's been like having a little personal trainer on my wrist whispering to make good choices, and to get things done.

I am 44yo, and have spent all of my adult life with bad knees, (childhood injuries) a few years ago I started cycling thanks to the help of Ebikes and going to the gym 4ish x a week. I have lost a lot of weight and am within a few years of being in the best shape of my adult life. I will never be able to run or jump again but what I can do now is far more that I could all through my 30's.

I came over from FitBit because I felt as though I had maxed its capabilities. I feel as though this watch will be useful for a long time and I hope that Garmin continues to evolve and innovate.

If you made it this far thanks for taking the time. Please let us know how it has improved your life.

  • It might sound strange, but the badges I get for challenges or to do any activity on new year's eve help me to go on and not give up even in times I am not into doing any sport

  • If you're cycling, get an Edge, I find it more useful on the bike than my Forerunner :-P

But I love my Forerunner for resting heart rate and sleep monitoring, which helps me understand how much recovery and sleep I need. It also use it for tracking my strength training (where it's great despite limitations) and swimming (where it's rather inaccurate for me, for anything from detecting lengths and style to measuring HR). I also like the easy access to my training load and other training stats. So overall it helps me with the physically active part of my life :-)

I also like the smartwatch features (notifications, calendar, weather). And I love the screen and the battery life. So it kind of also helps with the geeky part of my life ;-)
