Charging Issues

I have just taken receipt of a Garmin Forerunner 965, updated it to the latest software through Garmin Express.

The functionality of the watch is fine but it does not charge.

I have tried other charging ports and other charging cables to no avail. The watch face shows that the charger connects, shows the current battery percentage but does not power the battery. Any suggestions?

  • I am experiencing the exact same issue. My watch will not charge.  I have not needed to charge it until now but my battery is at 10 percent.

  • #0 push and hold the power button apprx 30sec until the watch reboot by itself and try to charge

#1 check and clean the contact points and near to it on the back of the watch

#2 check the charging cable pins, are all out and not stucked inside?

#3 try to plug the cable into a computer usb slot and charge that way (and after if it works, try the wall charger(s), maybe you tried with a non-compatible one)

#4 try to plug the cable into the watch in both direction, (turn 180 degree i mean) and check both ways are wrong or not.

#5 if these above mentioned steps didnt help, contact with Garmin support directly

  • I did all that. My charger is a usb-c not a usb and my computer does not have a usb-c option. It says it is charging but stays at 10%. My plan is to contact Garmin today. I have a race on Saturday and need my watch charged.

  • i bought immediately such an USB-C to USB adapter from Amazon

  • I have the same problem - watch says it's connected, shows the charging symbol, but the % does not go up. Did Garmin offer any advice? (I've done the reset, try different power source, different cable, clean contacts, etc).

  • Steve - I contacted Garmin support and they replaced the whole lot. New one has the new software on (recommend connecting your watch to WiFi) and works a right treat.

good bit of kit well worth overcoming the tech issues Thumbsup tone2

  • I contacted Garmin by phone and they replaced my watch because it is a known issue. When I contacted them via chat, I was just going to be sent a new charger despite telling them that was not the issue. I was also told there was no known issue with my watch. When I contacted support via phone, I received much better customer service and there is a known issue that has been fixed but I happened to get a watch that did not have the fix. The replacement watch has worked great so far.
