Add new activity type for baby stroller to count steps based on distance

Hello,

It is common that during walking with baby stroller, steps are not counted or max few % of them. Solution from garmin could be new activity type, which would measure distance normaly but steps would be counted based on the measured distance divided by your average step length.

Without this it is hard to complete challenges that measure steps while also steps statistics are being wrong as tens of thousands of steps are not counted. This can be considered as not fair to people who push baby strollers.

However, my main argument for introduction of this activity is, that without it, people are motivated to push baby stroller single-handedly (to swing with hand where watch is worn to count steps), which does not provide that good control of stroller and can increase probability of INJURIES from possible collisions or losing control.

I speak from my own experience and I believe that every garmin user who has a baby knows this pain point. Thank you garmin for considering this type of activity.

  • I've had the same issue and have done many single-handed stroller walks myself. However, I've had success with wearing my HRM-Pro Plus, which is also synced with Garmin Connect. It independently records all the steps and fills in the gaps after the activity. It also works even if you don't start a walk activity. In addition to stroller walk, I'd actually like to see a stroller RUN activity so I can disable VO2 Max.

  • I know about the problem but just threw our stroller a few weeks ago ;) But if you are really worried about the steps count then maybe try to wear it on a leg or maybe even having it in a pocket can work

  • Haha, possibly you can, but you dont get tracked any other stats like heart rate, etc. Thats kind of possible workaround I would not use, as it is watch and it should be placed on wrist and not in the pocket. I believe it can be done with sw with new activity type. GrinGrinGrin

  • That could work, but I cant imagine putting k the HRM just when I go out with baby. That does not sound as convenient solution either :) btw yeah it would be great to have also stroller run activity as it became trendy lately and can alter your normal run stats.
