How do I add Triathlon multi-sport courses?

I'm going to run a practice triathlon, with a pool swim, bike, and a run. How do I add the bike & run courses so I can have the navigation? I have the courses for the bike & the run created separately in Garmin Connect, and I have them on my Forerunner.

When I start the triathlon activity, though, I can't find a way to set the course or run each course. How does that work? And how does it work with actual race conditions/courses and transitions? Do I have to shift from sport to sport somewhere? Press lap to get in and out of transitions? Or will the watch somehow auto-detect it?

  • I just did a test and I found you have to manually load the course for each leg of the triathlon.

So after the swim press lap to go into Transition, then once ready, press lap again and it starts the Bike leg, then hold Menu --> Navigation --> Courses and load the Bike course.

    Repeat for the Run leg.

  • I'm doing a triathlon and when I try to load course while in the activity Bike/Run after swim I can't. I'm doing a pool swim rather than open water, but if I go to triathlon activity with open water change to pool swim back out one screen than the navigation option is there and lets me load course but only the bike course. Maybe a bug I have a FR 955.

Tried creating my own event but when you select multisport as activity rather that Bike or run it won't let you load a course at all. Seems like if the first activity doesn't use GPS it won't let you use it in any other parts of triathlon Bike or Run.

Would be great to be able to create a triathlon sport event in Calander and be able to load two courses with separate goals and auto load maps after transitions but I can't figure out how if it's possible.

  • I absolutely agree. IWBNI there was a feature where the normal configurations for each multisport discipline were available. So one could set a workout and course independently for each part.
