Forerunner 965 Software Version 17.26 - stuck at restart

Just downloaded version 17.26 (auto-update disabled on purpose) and select installation, now it's stuck on displaying "Neustart..." (Restart) for approx. 30 minutes Disappointed

Any idea what's wrong?
Save to shut down by power button and power on or will it make the device unusable?
Plugging to laptop doesn't change anything, I guess due to "restart" it's not available as USB device in this state.

Thanks

Oliver

  • Ok, gave it a try with powering off and restart. Worked out, glad.

  • I had same issue. Powering off and restart brought it back alive, but still in old software version. Did you manage to get 17.26 installed finally?

  • I had the same problem. Stuck on "Restarting..." and the only way to get out of it was to hold power for a restart. When it restarted it was still on the old version. I contacted Garmin support, but in the end, the only way I got it to work was by doing a factory reset. After that all updates ran through successfully. Bit of a pain.

  • When I did the latest firmware update the screen seemed to stay on restarting for a very long time, but it eventually changed and the firmware updated. There was no indication the watch was doing anything while on the restarting screen, it looked like it was stuck.

  • Thanks for your replies! I tried it again and indeed after staying several minutes on the restarting screen it got through.

  • If I left the watch long enough it would eventually restart, but it did not do the update. It just restarted and ended up on the same version of software. I didn't know until I check the s/w version on the watch. Did you check the version?

  • Yes, I checked software version is 17.26 now, but this is after 5 attempts.

  • Sounds like you didn't leave the watch on the restarting screen long enough, like it stays on that screen for about 3-5 mins before it changes to the updating cog screen, that's why when you did the power reset the watch it was still on the older firmware as the update stage didn't actually occur yet.

  • Not for me. I left it on the restarting screen for up to 30 mins each time. Sometimes it rebooted and went back to the old software version or I had to manually reboot and again straight back to the old software version. On one occassion it did show the update cog after the reboot but it crashed, restarted and showed the message "Update failed". After restarting it was again on the old software. I have owned many garmin devices and this was the first time I had a problem with updates. Factory reset was my only option after which it went through as expected. A last resort.

  • Very odd indeed, gald to hear the factory reset worked for you.
