FW 17.24 weather location setting?

The change log for FW 17.24 claims that;

  • Adds a setting to add a location for weather data.

Has anybody found this new setting? 

I have only found "Weather Location" control in the user settings of the phone app, but it seems that this does not apply to FR965

    Go to the weather widget and use the start button , select add location option.

    The point is that this new setting only overrides the current watch location (from GPS). I was expecting that it would force the location introduced manually not using the location of the closest weather station on Garmin's network. I see I was asking too much...

    Since the closest weather station is far away from my home, the weather widget is useless for me.

    I assume all weather reports are based on the next weather station. From where should they get the temperature if there is no measurement device.

    What other weather apps and widgets do is pull the weather from a weather forecast model. The model takes observations from actual weather stations but then models how the weather might be distributed over a geographic area from that ground truth. This allows sampling the weather at any specific point and is far more accurate than simply taking the closest weather station values, which might be an unknown distance away and affected by geography differences like coasts, mountains, and valleys. This is called 'nowcasting'.
