Black screen on Forerunner 965

My 2-day old Forerunner 965 has gone to a black screen though it had 90% battery. I read the comments about activating Emergency assistance, as I was still setting up the watch that doesn’t work. I tried to resend the watch to my phone, but the phone does not recognize that the watch is present. Do I need to return this watch?
