Guided Lactate Threshold test inaccurate results

Hello,

i did a guidded lactate threshold test and in my opinion the results cannot be true.

test says: HR 162 Pace 4:29 /km

from the HR and Pace charts i cannot see that i reached 4:29/km with a 162 bpm. Not even close. With 162 bpm i was at 5:20 /km region.

Do you think there is some settings to adjust ?

My Max HR is correct at 187 bpm.

  • i am a runner since january this year. before i was cycling a lot.

my training focus right now is to become fit and healthy that i can be prepared for future races like 10km or half Marathon at first.

I want to run 10k sub 45 min next year.

    Before my FR965 i had a vivosmart 5 for 4 years.

The problem is, if i do anarobic effort my watch sees it as pace or threshold workout. So how can my watch recognize my VO2 max.... Bc of the worong LT Pace.

I do 1 per week anarobic.

This is a sign that your HR Max is wrong, and too high. I suggest you drop your HR Max by 10bpm and see if that helps with the wrong assessment.

    Microsoft Word - EPOC_based_training_effect_assesment_REVISED 2.doc (firstbeat.com)

  • if i drop the HR Max by 10 or 5 bpm then it will be wrong, bc i reached 3 weeks ago almost my max hr at a hill sprint i was 3 bpm below it.

this is not a good solution, by faking the system like this.

And the strap is also correct, bc before i had the HRM dual and it is same.

Ok then it is not a good suggestion to lower your HR Max, I agree.

I do 1 per week anarobic.
    at a hill sprint

If these hill sprints are not rated as anaerobic, this is normal. Your workouts can be good workouts, but the watch will have trouble rating them as anaerobic despite the high HR, because the pace will be too low.

    So, when you say...

if i do anarobic effort my watch sees it as pace or threshold workout.

I hope we are not talking about hill sprint repeats.

Anyway, I fail to help you identify what is the source of the bad data that is throwing the algorithms of your watch off.

The good news is that if you keep a balanced running training (on flat grounds), then new data will be fed to the watch and it should adjust and converge over a few weeks.

I had myself my metrics thrown off by trail runs during this summer and a calibration issue with new shoes. My workout labels were off afterwards during road runs (for example Threshold runs became VO2 Max).

My VO2 Max dropped, but has started increasing since mid-August.

I then discovered that my Stryd Pod was not properly calibrated, giving me optimistic pace (although not extreme as your case). Upon correction, the metrics improved further (in particular the race predictions, the performance condition, etc.), and the VO2 Max keeps increasing slowly, but surely.

I also recently confirmed that the same 400m repeats give me a tempo rating and almost no anaerobic TE when done uphill, but work as expected on a track.

So as you can see, I went through a similar episode, identified the possible causes, corrected them and the metrics are getting back consistent.

Maybe Garmin support can help you identify the root cause of your issues.

  • Thank you, but i only Train like 5% of my time at Hills. I do my speed work mostly on flat ground.

I will contact the support and hope for help :/
