Smart Notifications Issue

Recently upgraded from a 935 to a 965. I'd like to use the 965 as my primary smart watch (have been using Apple Watch and the 935 for workouts). However, phone notifications on the watch have been sporadic to the point where they are unreliable. This includes all types of notifications including messages, email and notifications from all other apps. Notifications always worked flawlessly on the 935.

Typically I will receive notifications on the 965 properly for about 15-20 minutes before it stops working. If I toggle the phone connection on/off using the watch, or the Bluetooth on/off with the iPhone then the connection will reestablish and work for another 15-20 minutes. I've followed all of Garmin's suggested steps as well as fully disconnecting the watch from Connect, removing/reinstalling Connect on the phone and then reconnecting the watch. I did that twice. And the same results happen each time.

My suspicion is that some type of power-saving feature might be happening, probably on the iPhone's end, but I can't figure out any settings to change. Notifications also worked perfectly every time on my 935, so that counts against my theory. Anyone have suggestions?

  • My Notifications work ok currently  , When I had BT problems a while ago, I did the following :

    1. Forget the Device on BT settings on the phone

    2. Remove the GC App 

    3. Soft reset the watch (hold in light button until it shuts off completely), then restart after say 15s

    4. Restart the iPhone (Not power off and on but restart)

    5. Reinstall the GC app and log in

    6. Re-connect watch to iPhone bluetooth and GC

    After I did this some time ago the connection has been stable.
