Beware, some software or firmware updates disconnect sensors

I've seen this before, but it happened with the most recent 16.17 update:

Some of my external sensors were not connecting at the start of the activity, namely Tempe and Varia Radar.  When I dove into the settings menus, each of these was toggled to "disonnected" and when I toggled back, it immediately connected.

  • so it seems to keep happening.

On this morning's run, my 965 connected to my external HRM at the start of the run, but then later in the run I noticed I was not getting any HR metrics.  I dove into the menu and saw that ALL of my HR sensors had been turned OFF including the one it had already connected to!

Even more frustratingly, it didn't default to onboard OHR to pick up HR so most of the run was useless from an HR metric standpoint.

I've performed a reset by holding down the upper left button, hopefully that resolves this frustrating bug.

  • Contact support.

I have multiple sensors, pods, etc and don't have issues with them turning off intermittently as you've described.

(Also, double check the battery on that HRM, just in case)

  • Thanks.  This has happened again, after the most recent FW I noticed that my HR sensors were all toggled off in my menu.  They're all non-Garmin HRMs, not sure why that would matter.

At least Stryd doesn't turn off.  I guess I need to keep remembering to check sensors everytime I update FW.
