Navigation map bug - keeps switching to zoom/pan mode each couple of seconds.

I wonder if anyone else has experienced this strange behaviour while navgating. When I touch the screen while navigation map is displayed, the navigation map switches into the zoom/pan map mode. Then I press back button and the map switches back to navigation mode. But after couple of seconds, it skips back to zoom/pan mode, where the map does not shift automaticaly with my position change. I press back again, but few seconds later the zoom mode is back. It is annoying. Whenever I want to see my location in navigation, I need to press the back button to show navigation for a few seconds and in a while it is back to zoom mode. Is this some bug in software?

  • Sound like it could be a touchscreen issue. Do you encounter "phantom touches" in any other context? If you disable touch completely (by turning it off for general use and for the activity), do you see the same problem? (It should probably be enough just to turn it off for the activity, since the map won't enter pan/zoom mode via touch while the timer is running and touch is disabled for the activity.)

Have you tried turning the watch off and on (yeah, I know, what a cliche)?

  • Thanks, then I'm not alone.

Yes, I have that also. From day one with the watch (epix51 pro, 15th July). Only sunny days for me.

It's definitely phantom touches. I've disbled touch and then it's ends. When activates it again, it's like it's not coming back. If that's the case it's definitely is a software issue.

I wanted to do some more trials before reporting it.

  • Phantom touches came to my mind also. Out of cca 20 my trips with navigation, this issue only occured only about 3 times, so I rejected this theory. However, to exclude this possibility, I will try to disable touches and see if it ever comes back.

And yes, the first time it happened, I first stopped and resumed the activity (no help), then I ended the activity/navigation, restarted the watches and launched activity/navigation again (yes I lost half of the tracking). This helped, but then I better didn't  touch the display to zoom the navigation for the rest of trip. That is why I concluded it to be a software bug.

  • Thanks for sharing your experience, at least I know now, it may not be the issue of my device only. It happened only couple of times to me,  and I don't remember if it was on the sunny days. I will try to disable the touches, it might help after all.

  • Same. I've found that the zoom in/out appears when I raise-to-wake. If I hit back a bunch of times the normal navigation mode comes back. With always on display during the activity I can look at an off angle and see the map with navigation as it's supposed to be. Then raise to look at it and the zoom controls come back and I have to repeat the process.

A reboot of the watch seems to help, prior to navigating a course.

  • Yes, I have the same.

And all garmin does is adding useless ‘features’ and ignore bugreports.
